Aldeas Infantiles and Aviva - working together to help children
Aviva has signed an agreement with Aldeas Infantiles to work as a Constructor de Futuro (Future Builder) and to participate in corporate volunteering activities.
Through the agreement with Aldeas Infantiles, Aviva will focus part of its social action programme on helping children and young people in vulnerable situations. The aim of the partnership is to encourage and develop children’s independence by providing foster care, preventing cruelty and strengthening family and social networks.
As a Future Builder, Aviva will contribute to the upkeep of one of Aldeas Infantiles’ eight centres in Spain. The resources provided by Aviva may be channelled into any of the 90 programmes or SOS prevention and social/occupational integration centres run by Aldeas Infantiles throughout the country.
The agreement also covers another form of working together - corporate volunteering, which aims to mobilise the talents of Aviva staff for social development.
Ignacio Izquierdo, chief executive officer (CEO) of Aviva in Spain, comments “we are particularly please to extend Aviva’s social programme by joining this initiative of helping children that Aldeas Infantiles started more than 60 years ago and that, today, provides protection for more than 450,000 children and young people throughout the world, including 3,500 in Spain.” He continues, “we believe the work carried out by Aldeas Infantiles SOS is admirable, especially the improvements it means for the future of these children and for society as a whole.”
Juan Belda, president of Aldeas Infantiles SOS in Spain says, “Every year, 10 million children die in the world as a result of failure to provide care in the family. In Spain, some 500,000 need social help and, every year, 40,000 are admitted to hospital following abuse. Highlighting this situation and providing companies and society with specific projects to help children and young people in need is our raison d’être.” He goes on to say, “We are delighted that Aviva has joined forces with us and are convinced that we will achieve great things together because Aviva is a company that shares our vision of building a better future starting now”.
